Testing and Inspection
As an FAA Repair Station, KB Inspection Services simplifies many complicated issues for pilots, airport officials and aviation managers. We offer accurate, comprehensive FAA-certified inspection services for your aircraft or aircraft components, and we can serve you at either our full-service lab in Jacksonville or at your site; whether a runway, hangar or workshop.
At KBNDT, we do whatever it takes to keep you safely aloft.
KB Inspection Service engineers perform certified nondestructive testing and inspection on aircraft, using these and other methods:
This efficient and reliable method uses radioactive isotope (x-rays or gamma rays) to create a film which we process in our lab or in a mobile darkroom. The results show defects that might otherwise be invisible.
For ferromagnetic materials, this is one of the most sensitive examinations. The sample is magnetized, and iron fillings are applied. The fillings adhere to any breaks in the magnetic field, allowing the examiner to spot defects. Defects too small to be visible can be further examined with fluorescent inspection.
In the same manner as the iron fillings, KB scientists apply dye to testing samples, and then examine it visually or under fluorescent light to locate defects. This is a quick and economical testing method and can easily be set up in the field with KB's portable equipment.
NDT inspectors only need access to one side of a material to examine it with this method. A transducer sends the ultrasound through the sample of the inner wall of a defect surface will send the wave bouncing back. Ultrasonic testing can also measure thickness and detect corrosion; it is also very portable and efficient.
A flow of periodic electrical currents in conductors called probes creates varying electromagnetic fields. These probes are placed in close proximity to the surfaces of the test materials, and can detect effects of processing and shaping operations during production, as well as corrosion damage or cracking for most nonmagnetic metals and alloys.
KB Inspection Services provides the widest range of testing services in the Southeast, from product and material properties testing to investigative chemistry and construction materials engineering. Our qualified staff of professional engineers, chemists and experienced technicians has the expertise to fulfill your testing requirements, accurately and cost-effectively.
